Esquire Chooses the Walkmen's "Heaven" as Song of the Summer

We've got to give it to Esquire -they have some good taste in music. Around this time last year, they chose Walk the Moon's "Anna Sun" as Song of the Summer 2011. Today they've come out with their Song of the Summer for 2012 and it's the Walkmen's "Heaven" off their 5/29 album of the same name.

Andy Langer writes of "Heaven" that "for long highway drives — the kind you keep yourself awake on by burying your fist in the dashboard — this is going to be unbeatable. It's a taut two-chord, anthem- loud and jangly, with desperate overtones ("Don't leave me/You're my best friend/All of my life, you've always been"). It ends with a huge round of simple but memorable U2-style"Oh-oh-oh-ohs." I suppose they give "Heaven" its "summery" feel. But mostly, it's my "Song of the Summer" because it's summer, and it's a song I know I'll feel just as strongly about in December, when I'm making a top-ten list, as I do now making a summer list."

You can listen to "Heaven" on the Walkmen's website and also preorder the album for the next week.

Mick Meet Record Store Day

Tomorrow is Record Store Day - one of the most exciting days of the year for serious music fans. Why may you ask? Because they:
a) get to get exclusive vinyls from their favorite artists
b) may get to catch said favorite artists performing a small show at their local record store
and
c) get to feel good about supporting small businesses at the same time.

And Mick artists won't be leaving fans hanging. We've got Record Day exclusives from Justin Townes Earle, Walk the Moon, and Real Estate.

Justin Townes Earle will release a 7inch featuring the title track from his newest album "Nothing's Gonna Change the Way You Feel About Me Now" as an A side and a cover of Elvis Costello's "Sneaky Feelings" as the b-side.

Walk the Moon will be playing at Shake It Records in Cincinnati tomorrow, but if you can't make it to Cincy, you can find a special "Anna Sun" 7" with the previously unreleased "anywayican" as the b-side. Preview "anywayican" in the video below:

And Real Estate will be featured via flexi disc in Domino and Ribbon Records 'Smugglers Way' magazine. 'Smugglers Way' is the first ever zine from the labels, featuring five individual, multi-colored flexi discs of exclusive, unreleased songs from Dirty Projectors, Real Estate, Cass McCombs, John Maus and Villagers + a 24 page zine with exclusive art and writings from the world of Domino.

Check out the 'zine set to Real Estate's track "In My Car". Very Cool.
